The most horrific thing about getting close to someone is the thought that at any point, they could lose complete interest in you
I think this is actually a really powerful scene. If you take into consideration everything he knows now and what he plans to do, he’s essentially saying, “I won’t let this stop me.” He’s telling Caroline he wants to show her a place he considers to be his home. He built it, it’s his, and he plans to take it back. He’s emotional during the phone call because he knows that what’s happening in his life could mean the end of something that was just beginning, something that he was very invested in. But Klaus is also a fighter and regardless of whether the show got picked up or Caroline wasn’t a main player in that show, it’s important to remember that for Klaus, his story with Caroline is not over. He just has to tweak the beginning of their story as it progresses into ‘them.’ And maybe it might take a little longer and he sorts things out, but he knows what he wants.
